Allergy is more of a condition than a disease. Someone with allergies has increased sensitivity to a certain particle or substance.

What are the possible symptoms?

Normally the symptoms appear on a particular body part that has been exposed to the allergen.
There are several different kinds of allergies. All the allergic reactions vary from each other in type and severity. Some allergies could be harmless while others could be fatal to its sufferer, such as anaphylaxis. During anaphylaxis, the person’s blood pressure falls to a dangerously low level, and their respiratory tracts may become swollen and blocked.
Whilst most allergies can’t be healed completely, through many alternative and conventional methods, it is possible to alleviate the allergic reactions. If you are having a severe allergic reaction, you should get proper medical care immediately.

Causes:

The exact cause of allergies has not yet been confirmed, but inheritance is a major factor for its occurrence. The human body is protected from invading agents and pathogens by the immune system, whose antigens produce antibodies and chemicals that fight off those foreign substances. Benign substances like food particles are overlooked by the immune system; it only destroys harmful invaders, such as bacteria.
When the immune system cannot decide about an invader being neutral or harmful, it activated the histamine secretion. Histamine causes inflammation to fight off that foreign substance. Histamine affects the body in many ways, some of which are the symptoms of allergy. Allergens are those particles that trigger an allergic reaction. These allergens vary from peanuts to pollen to penicillin.
There are several different types of allergies. They are categorised according to their type of allergen and their site of effect on the body.
